Academics

From Math and Science (STEM) to literature, history, and foreign languages, our tutors bring years of local experience with them to each lesson. Through unique perspectives and teaching styles, students are propelled towards their goals.

Our Goal:  Reintroduce each student to their own enthusiasm for learning so they can draw from the motivation of their innate curiosity.

Read below to hear what makes our teaching philosophies different!

MATHEMATICS

Drawing from a blend of concept and process, we arm students with mastery of both detail and big picture.

We develop their intuitive understanding of each new chapter by connecting the steps, graphs, and formulas to past topics.

While identifying and filling gaps left from previous experiences, we combat “math-identity” issues. There’s no such thing as “not a math” person.

We teach beyond class curriculum and prioritize building the confidence to discover solutions when faced with a new type of problem.

WRITING & READING COMPREHENSION

Critical reasoning is not only essential to achievement in math, science, and standardized testing, but carries far beyond into college and career.  Literature analysis is the primary training ground for developing this skill!

We show students how to identify textual and subtextual meanings, growing their capacities to perceive themes, perspectives, and biases.

Through demonstration and practice, students master communicating their ideas through well-structured and well-supported arguments.

PHYSICAL SCIENCES

By developing knowledge from the logical foundations of chemistry, biology, and physics early on, our students are positioned to face the challenging sections with agility.

Students learn how to distinguish between what is necessary to understand and what can/should be memorized.

Difficulty in science can often stem from a rocky foundation in math. We’re always on the lookout for this and make filling math skill gaps a priority.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Vocabulary and grammar can feel mechanical and impersonal. Even when immersed, students may struggle to relate. We bring the language to the student, creating stories and scenarios from their lives to improve retention.

Disconnects in grammar are reframed visually with charts, instilling an intuition for the common uses of each grammatical construct.

We offer a unique variety of study tools, including online flash cards and pronunciation resources, chart building, and impromptu cumulative quizzes.
